For information on the import & manufacture of Hand sanitizers
The WHO recommends two formulations for hand sanitizers. One formulation is prepared by using ethanol and the other by using Isopropyl alcohol as active ingredients. Final recommended concentrations of active ingredients are Ethanol 80%v/v and Isopropyl alcohol 75%v/v respectively. In line with this, the NMRA requires finished products to contain alcohol in the following concentrations:
• For Ethanol :80% (v/v) but a concentration between 75% and 85% (v/v) is acceptable.
• For Isopropyl alcohol :75% (v/v) but a concentration between 70% and 80% (v/v) is acceptable.
Manufacturers are required to strictly adhere to this recommendation. For more detailed information please refer the WHO Guideline for Production of Handrub Formulations.
